Which windows are the least expensive?
To keep your budget under control without sacrificing comfort, PVC windows remain the best choice. PVC is an affordable material to buy, easy to install and very low-maintenance: simple cleaning with soapy water is enough. Thanks to the insulating chambers built into the profiles and double or even triple glazing, it achieves excellent thermal performance.
You benefit from a wide range of colours (white, anthracite grey, wood effect, etc.) and many configurations: casement, tilt-and-turn, sliding…
Ideal for renovations in the Basque Country or the South of the Landes, where good value for money and decent resistance to Atlantic sea spray are sought.
What Uw value for windows?
Uw (U-window) indicates the window’s overall heat loss (frame + sash + glazing). The lower it is, the better the insulation.
≤ 1.3 W/m²·K: very high performance, compliant with the requirements for financial aid (MaPrimeRénov’, CEE) and suitable for coastal areas exposed to wind and humidity.
≈ 1.0 W/m²·K with triple glazing: recommended for passive houses or rooms highly exposed to the north.
Uw depends on the glazing (Ug) and the frame (Uf); a multi-chamber PVC frame or laminated timber with a thermal break maximises energy efficiency and also improves acoustic comfort.
What financial aid is available to replace windows in 2025?
In 2025, several financial schemes are available:
- MaPrimeRénov’ (Blue, Yellow, Purple or Pink scale depending on your income) for energy-efficiency improvements.
- MaPrimeRénov’ Parcours Accompagné (formerly Sérénité) for whole-home renovations with mandatory support.
- CEE bonuses (“Coup de Pouce Isolation”) paid by energy suppliers.
- Reduced VAT at 5.5% and the eco-PTZ of up to €50,000.
